Last weekend I headed down to Monterey, California to watch my brother Andrew race for Team Honda at Laguna Seca Raceway. It was great to be able to cheer him on during the race, but it also was a great excuse to make a weekend trip down the coast.
We were lucky enough to style the latest Fall 2013 collection from Sperry Top-Sider and am really excited to share the photos with you! When we weren’t at the racetrack, we headed to the beach and local harbor to check out the waves and enjoy some fresh seafood with family. I really liked to see another side of Sperry aside from the traditional boat shoes and see that their expansive fall collection that includes oxfords, booties, wedges and flats.
I really loved wearing these booties since the heel was just high enough to have the classic boot feel, yet they were so comfortable I felt like I was wearing flats. The sandy, cream color is probably my favorite color and I just loved the way it looked styled up against my Jigsaw London sweater that has the coolest sort of ‘undone’ cable knit to it–so unique! Oh, and how cute is the gold detail on the side of the boots? I didn’t realize this on the boots when I looked at them online but I actually said “Oh wow, look at that gold!” when I took them out of the box!
For Andrew’s look, he wanted to let the bright pop of the leather oxfords do the talking and worked with a complimentary color palette of blues and greens to really let the shoes shine. Andrew definitely has more of a tan than I (all of that hanging out at the racetrack I suppose!) and the brown Sperry leather was a great match to his complexion. Aside from the clothes, how awesome is the light in the Monterey sunset?
This year Sperry kicked off a fun project called The Sea Project, #mypassionforthesea, and invited individuals to share their creative expressions inspired by their own passion for the sea and enter them for consideration in the Instagram-fueled photography contest, exhibit and limited edition book. All work from the exhibit will be on display in San Francisco during America’s Cup and select images will be featured in the limited edition book that will go on sale in September in conjunction with the exhibit. For 2013, The Sea Project has selected the Ocean Conservancy as the non-profit beneficiary of book sale proceeds, love good fashion that supports a great cause!
Have you guys checked out the Fall 2013 Sperry Top-Sider collection yet? What do you think of the range of new styles in addition to the classic boat shoes?
