Entering into my new mom-life reality has definitely been a journey. Although we’re only a few weeks in, our routine is starting to solidify and we are so in love with baby Harrison. From all of the classes we took leading up to when he was born and stories from friends, we assumed our world would be rocked and expected long days and sleepless nights.  I’m so thankful for my friend Sylvie who told me about the baby Snoo Bassinet from Happiest Baby.  I trust advice from my friends and knew we needed to give it a try ourselves for our sanity during the first few months as parents.

Can a $1,300 baby bed help us be better parents and save our sleep?  I was definitely interested in finding out!

Everything You Need to Know About the Baby Snoo Bassinet

WHAT IS THE SNOO BASSINET?

The Snoo is a smart baby bassinet that boosts a child’s rest and helps them fall asleep faster. The high tech components of this sleeper include a soft rocking motion, a safe and cozy swaddle, and gentle white noise being pumped into the bed – in other words, all the things that babies love.  The Snoo was created by baby guru Dr. Harvey Karp, author of the 5 S’s and The Happiest Baby on the Block. Through all of Dr. Karp’s research, he has found that this particular collection of motions, sounds, and feelings mimic the mother’s womb, helping any baby to feel safe and sleepy.  And for any new mom or dad that has had one too many nights with a fussy baby, that price tag may not seem too bad.

THE SNOO BASSINET’S BENEFITS

The biggest benefit of the Snoo is increased, solid sleep time for baby. The bassinet boasts an extra 1-2 hours of sleep for your bundle of joy with its sensing gradual rocking. Other than rocking your baby safely in your arms, there may not be another activity that can guarantee parents and babies more sleep.

One thing that has REALLY been stuck in my mind while off on parental leave–is how important sleep is, and especially in our family where safety comes into play.  Not only do we need to get sleep for our ability to care for baby, but Kevin’s career as an Air Traffic Controller–it’s mission critical for public safety!

We only get a short amount of time for parental leave so investing in the right sleep solution is paramount for us to get into a good rhythm with baby Harrison.

We love the Snoo’s mobile app that comes with it. You can control every aspect of the Snoo with just a few clicks on your phone – all without disturbing your baby or getting up from bed (especially helpful for new moms during recovery)!  One time we put Harrison down to bed and the Snoo sound sensor actually trigger from our Netflix show! We noticed the soothing rocking mode started up and we were able to turn it down from our phones without disturbing him or having to get up.

The mobile app also tracks your baby’s sleep patterns which will help you be able to plan your day accordingly.  We’ve noticed that Harrison sleeps really well in the Snoo and rarely needs to be consoled once the gentle rocking kicks in.  Here’s a few of our Snoo Sleep Logs to show you what we see:

SPENDING THE NIGHT WITH THE SNOO

Ever hear of letting a baby “cry it out?” With the Snoo, sleep training is much easier and won’t cause your kiddo to cry all night long until they give up and fall asleep.  It will automatically increase to soothe your baby with a few different levels of rocking and white noise until it senses they are pacified and calm.  It does, however, have a limit to let parents know when to step in.  If you baby is fussing for too long at the max rocking level, it will stop completely to let you know your baby really needs you.  There is are even a weaning setting that will help transition your child from sleeping in the bassinet to a crib.

THE SNOO’S AESTHETICS

The Snoo is a beautiful bassinet. This particular product has a minimalist design and aesthetic that can match practically any room and gender with its sleek look, as pointed out by a reviewer with Forbes.  We love the look of it since it blends in with our home decor.  The white mesh bassinet siding looks clean and keeps it breathable.  You can use the regular length legs or the shorty legs if you’re looking for a more low profile bassinet.

THE SNOO’S ADDED BENEFITS FOR PARENTS

There are many scary things that can happen with a newborn when it comes to sleep. The Snoo is able to combat these frightening and sometimes fatal mishaps because of its attention to safety.

The Snoo cuts down on the risk of SIDS due to the position the baby sleeps in within the bassinet and the special sleep sack that keeps them secured on the back.

This mastery design allows parents to swaddle their baby in comfortable cotton swaddles called Snoo sacks and then “clip” their baby into place to prevent rolling in the middle of the night and keeping baby on their back.

And on the topic of peace of mind, Happiest Baby’s customer service is top notch.  When we were setting our Snoo up we couldn’t get it to connect to our home wifi.  We were stuck on a certain step in the app and couldn’t proceed.  Naturally we were setting this up late on a Saturday night (cutting it down to the wire before my due date!) and we were so surprised to learn that customer service was not only open, but a pleasure to talk with on the phone.

OUR FINAL THOUGHTS

I’m sure everyone does a ton of research when looking for the baby products to choose for their babies.  We definitely thought long and hard about which bassinet was right for us.  We were so happy with our choice of the Snoo and really attribute Harrison’s calmness to having restful nights.  We’ve actually traveled with it (road trip style) because we love it so much and brought it with us to Tahoe! We’ve been telling all of the other families in our pregnancy and parenting classes about how well he sleeps and next thing you know, the other families are in love with their Snoos too!  We definitely plan to use the Snoo bassinet for our second child for the peace of mind and the benefits it provides us.

I think about this ALL. THE. TIME. ✨ I think about this ALL. THE. TIME. ✨
✨ Harrison Finnley Michaels 12/8/2019 ✨ Three ✨ Harrison Finnley Michaels 12/8/2019 ✨
Three months with this little guy and our worlds are rocked. He’s gone from just opening his eyes to rolling over, pushing himself up, grabbing at toys (and my phone as I type this out). He loves to laugh and talk in his baby language all day long 🤣 and sleeps all through the night 🙌🏼 How did we get so blessed with him?! @kmichaels216
Wedding Bells 💍 We are finally diving into some Wedding Bells 💍
We are finally diving into some wedding planning after our engagement last year and not going to lie, it’s overwhelming! We are super laid back and are looking for something small to celebrate. For me, this day isn’t about a big, fancy dress, or hundreds of guests to entertain. It’s about spending time with Kevin and I together committing our lives to one another. I was recommended to check out @shutterfly’s The Wedding Shop and mocked up an invite in this beautiful botanical print perfectly personalized to us and our style. Love our custom candle (smells so good!) and champagne flutes too! Check out my stories for more behind the scenes of unpacking our wedding items and some close ups! #MyShutterfly (ad)
CATCHING UP, what do you have going on this week? CATCHING UP, what do you have going on this week?
• This morning I had an eye exam to check my contacts / glasses Rx. I shared new glasses on Stories but turns out the Rx was wrong in them. I’m TRYING to wear my glasses more around the house and splurged on a pair from @ysl hoping that would help me do it 🤣🤓
• I haven’t been a big concealer wearer but I’ve been testing out the @urbandecaycosmetics naked concealer and have been liking how light it feels on my skin (I’m wearing it here, dress is new from @urbanoutfitters!)
• A work-related project this week—I’m trying to get my inbox of 700 emails down to zero. My problem is that I’ll get an email with some great piece of info in it and think “oh this is great! I can’t work on this right now but I’ll save for when I can” and I mark it unread. Well over time that has added up to 700 😬 I’m thinking of tackling it by sorting through and noting down whatever idea it is in my notebook (paper planner for LIFE! 📒) to reference it and have them all in one place. Maybe this will work!
• I’m currently sitting here watching this little baby sleep and the whole “I want to eat this baby” thing is SO REAL. What is it about babies where it makes us say that?!? He loves his @bibs_usa and @mushie_co!
• I’m considering cutting 3-4 inches from my hair....but here’s the kicker...I have this weird urge to DO IT MYSELF. Maybe I don’t want to put it off until I can get an appointment but I just want to cut it now. Please you guys, talk me out of doing this with scissors in the bathroom 🤣✂️
• Kevin and I have been binge watching @abcscandal and it’s SO ADDICTING. If you haven’t watched it, join us on Netflix but don’t blame me when you’re 2 episodes past your bedtime 😜 we are currently on season 4 of 7!
• WHAT ARE YOU UP TO THIS WEEK???
NEW MOM FASHION AND BEAUTY HACKS: 💁🏼‍♀️
1️⃣ Style your hair once ride that beautiful hair through the week with minimal effort. I use the @t3micro curling wand on day 1 fresh hair to put a little curl in it. On days 2-4 I use dry shampoo—my favorite is @livingproofinc to soak up oil, and then on days 5+ when dry shampoo doesn’t cut it anymore I throw on a cute beanie
2️⃣ Still trying to “bounce back” (whatever that means...) after baby? Same mama, same. @spanx leather-look leggings suck it all in and help as a postpartum support during healing. Win win!
3️⃣ Duster coats are the ONLY thing I want to wear. Not only do they keep you cozy as we wait for spring, but having pockets is NECESSARY for me. Phone in one, pacifier in another, and whatever other random things I need to bring with me when my arms are full with a baby
4️⃣ Lots of undereye concealer for that 8 hours of sleep look. @tartecosmetics shape tape is a favorite but I’ve been testing out @urbandecaycosmetics stay naked concealer and really like it for more natural coverage
MAMAS, WEIGH IN: What are you mom fashion and beauty hacks?! #newmomhacks
Our morning walk ritual ☺️ It’s still been a Our morning walk ritual ☺️
It’s still been a bit chilly out in the mornings but that doesn’t stop us from bundling up (in matching hats no less!) and going for a walk around our neighborhood. Baby carrying is a wonderful thing once you get the hang of it! I love how it gives you a bit of a workout with the added weight of a baby (Harrison is 11lbs now!) and gives them a chance to look around with a different view than the stroller. I can’t wait until he’s big enough to be front facing and then he can really look out at the world. I’ve been using the @nuna_usa @potterybarnkids CUDL carrier (this fabric is the broken arrow caviar) and my favorite feature are the magnetic clips that automatically snap into place to hold baby snugly. #lovemypbk
