Summer time grilling is going full force at our house! We love firing up the BBQ on any given summer weekend and I’ve been trying out new recipes to mix up some of our BBQ favorites. I’ve been playing with ground turkey a lot in recipes and made some insanely delicious turkey smash burgers this past weekend. I made a variation of this juicy burger recipe with turkey and it’s a healthy mix of protein and flavor for any outdoor BBQ. Check out how I made these below:
DELICIOUS TURKEY SMASH BURGERS
Ingredients:
- 1 lb Ground turkey
- Seasoning mix of your choice (I made a mix of dried onions, salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and an Italian blend seasoning
- Best Foods Olive Oil Mayonnaise (to act as a binder for the burgers)
- Burger fixings (I opted for butter lettuce for the buns, heirloom tomatoes, red onion, and creamy avocado to top these burgers
Add your spice mix to your ground turkey and work it into the mixture. I just use a spoon and mix it in evenly.
In addition to the spices, I added a 1/4 cup of Best Foods Olive Oil Mayonnaise to act as an extra binder in the burgers and give them some extra juiciness. The turkey I’m using is very lean so adding this olive oil mayonnaise helps enhance the flavor make them stick together.
And for the best part–time to smash the burgers! Scoop out your turkey mixture onto a piece of wax paper and smash them down with a spoon until in patty shapes. I prefer this method because it keeps my hands clean and I love the homemade and organic look to the irregular shaped burgers. Repeat with the rest of the turkey mixture until all patties are formed.
And for a little bright color before hitting the grill, I gave these turkey smash burgers a healthy sprinkle of smoked paprika for extra spice and smoke!
Time for the grill! We turned our gas grill up on high heat and cooked these burgers thoroughly for about 5 minutes per side.
While our juicy turkey smash burgers are cooking up, I sliced up the beautifully red heirloom tomato, red onion, avocado, and peeled “buns” with the butter lettuce. Once the burgers were ready, we made a little assembly station available for our guests and plated up these yummy turkey smash burgers!
You need to give these seriously simple and delicious turkey smash burgers a try on your grill this summer!

Turkey burgers can be a bit dry so you can always add your own mix of spices and change these over time to get a different taste. I would use Nando’s sauce, soy sauce, mustard, herbs. ginger and garlic. this is my basic marinade and is Super tasty. Try this marinade on salmon and serve salmon with mashed potato topped with fried mushroom and broccoli.
