Summertime to me means one thing…hanging out at the pool as much as possible!  It seems like every weekend someone is hosting a pool party so it got me thinking about my my favorite outfit to wear to pool-side parties… For me, I prefer swimwear that is multipurpose and functional.  I like my swimsuit to be able to act as clothing (as I did in the photos above by pairing it with a skirt) and also act as a protective guard for summer water sports (like when I’m on vacation and a one-piece acts as a great rash-guard while surfing).  The former definitely comes in handy for pool parties!

Depending on the level of party-fanciness you can adjust what you’re wearing, but I opted to go a little Gatsby-inspired for this event.  I love the black and white print of this St. John bandeau swimsuit via SwimSpot.  Black and white is HUGE for summer and the print is classic and right up my alley.  I decided to wear this swimsuit as a top and paired it with a high-low skirt and some killer pool party heels…all keeping with the black and white theme.  For a little sparkle, I adorned my neck with two art-deco necklaces that tied it all together.

Now lets be frank here…obviously I’m not going to be swimming in heels in jewelry but for the initial meet and greet at a pool party, its fun to be a bit more pulled together, especially if you’re helping out by setting up food/drinks/whatever.  But when its time to jump in? Goodbye skirt, heels, jewelry…that’s what the giant straw bag is for afterall!
