As sad as I am about summer ending, I’m so excited that we are coming up on one of my favorite holidays…Halloween! The past couple of years I’ve been into using makeup and hair products to transform into my costume. It’s also so much easier to get Halloween ready when you usually have the items you need already in your bathroom and makeup bag—or can easily pick them up on your next Target run! I’ve been playing around with Halloween hair and makeup looks for this season and wanted to share two of my favorites with you in this post—a shimmery fairy and a smoky devil.
Both of these looks were very easy to recreate—I’m definitely not a professional hair and makeup artist—so I would recommend continuing to blend your makeup until it feels just right, and continue to backcomb your hair to get the desired volume. If it doesn’t work out right away, wipe it off or brush it out and try again.
HALLOWEEN HAIR AND MAKEUP#1: THE FLEEK FAIRY LOOK
Here’s what you’ll need to recreate this fairy look:
- Assorted makeup (make sure you’ve got some shimmery products!)
- dry shampoo (I used TRESemme Fresh Start Basic Care Dry Shampoo)
- hairspray (I’m using TRESemme Two Extra Hold Hair Spray)
- Q-tips cotton swabs and cotton rounds (to touch up and fix mistakes)
- curling iron or rod
- a comb for backcombing the hair
- mini hair elastics
- and hair extensions (optional if you want for the braided portion)
- fairy accessories like flowers, butterflies, or jewels
- makeup remover to take it all off (Simple Dual Effect Eye Makeup Remover is great to take off heavy eye makeup!)
STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL:
Prep skin for makeup by cleansing with Simple Cleaning Facial Wipes and then apply foundation as needed for coverage
Using tape as a guideline, start applying eyeshadow in sweeping motions and continue to blend for a soft affect. Use whatever colors you’d like your fairy to be!
Apply a lighter shimmer eyeshadow in the inner corner of the eyes and blend outwards for an ombre affect
Apply winged liquid eyeliner and touch up any mistakes with Q-tips cotton swabs for a precise line
To add to the glowy fairy affect, apply a generous amount of highlighter to cheekbones, browbone, and bridge of nose
Add pink lipcolor and touchup with Q-tips for a precise application
Starting on the hair look, apply TRESemme Fresh Start Basic Care Dry Shampoo to give hair additional texture and grip for the style
Using a curling rod, curl 1.5inch sections alternating towards the face and away for soft, undone curls. ApplyTRESemme Two Extra Hold Hair Spray to hold the style in place
Section off hair at the top crown of the head and start to backcomb sections starting at the back to build up volume

Once the crown section of hair is all backcombed, tuck and pin under into a bouffant bump
Using hair from underneath or extensions, create two braids behind each ear and wrap around front, securing with pins and hairspray
Add additional accessories like flowers, butterflies, or jewels to complete your fairy look!
And at the end of the night, wipe it all off with a Simple Dual Effect Eye Makeup Remover!
HALLOWEEN HAIR AND MAKEUP#2: SMOKED OUT DEVIL LOOK
Here’s what you’ll need to recreate this devil look:
- Assorted makeup (make sure you have red eyeshadow or facepaint and dark colors for lots of contouring!)
- Dry shampoo (I used Suave Professionals Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo)
- Hair spray (I’m using Suave Professionals Aero Touchable Finish Extra Hold Hair Spray)
- Q-tips Cotton Swabs (to touch up and fix mistakes)
- A comb or brush
- Bobby pins or clips
- Devil accessories like horns, a pitchfork, cape, etc
- Makeup wipes to take it all off (Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes are my favorite!)
STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL
Prep skin for makeup by cleansing withSimple Cleansing Facial Wipes and then apply foundation as needed for coverage
Apply a very heavy contour starting with a lighter shade of brown and continue to deepen until the desired bone structure illusion is created
Slowly build up black eyeshadow into an exaggerated winged shape, and apply red eyeshadow (or face paint) in the inner corners and crease of eyes–blending until a smooth ombre affect is achieved
Apply winged liquid eyeliner and touch up any mistakes with Q-tips Cotton Swabs for a precise line
Starting on the hair look, applySuave Professionals Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo to give hair additional texture and grip for the style
Pin crown section of hair out of the way and applySuave Professionals Aero Touchable Finish Extra Hold Hair Spray to each side and slick back and secure into a twist at the back of the head. Apply additional hairspray as needed to smooth any stray hairs
Untie crown section of hair, spray with hairspray, and proceed to backcomb in sections from back to front
Once the crown section of hair is all backcombed, tuck and pin under into a sleek voluminous bouffant and pin into place
Add additional accessories like devil horns or a dab of black eyeshadow to the lips to complete your devil look!
And to take it all off at the end of the night, use aSimple Cleansing Facial Wipes (or two!) to wipe it all away.
I love how these two Halloween Hair and Makeup looks turned out and I can’t wait for Halloween to get closer! Putting together a costume on the fly is really easy (and stress free!) when using everyday hair and makeup products. And if you don’t have it on hand, you can easily pick up the beauty supplies you need in the Target beauty aisle (don’t forget to scan all of your items with the Cartwheel app!)
