It’s sad to say but summer is quickly coming to a close. I’m already talking about transitioning to fall fashion and planning for festive fall activities. But with the close of summer, that also means it’s time for me to wrap up on the last getaways of my summer vacations and reflect on the golden memories I’ve created.
While reflecting on the wondering experiences I’ve had traveling this summer–my trip to the World Cup in Brazil, sunbathing and hiking in Maui, and taking weekend trips to Napa–I decided to take an afternoon to really think back and enjoy all of the wonderful travels I’ve gotten to experience.
We’ve heard the saying “Travel is the only thing you can buy that makes you richer” and I completely agree with that statement. Being able to travel–whether its a local trip to a new part of your city, or somewhere across the globe–really is a golden opportunity to expand your outlook, your mind, and your soul.
During my afternoon of travel reflection, I picked up a world map and started to draw on it. First, I circled in black the places I had been lucky enough to travel to. I love exploring new cultures other than my own, so some of my favorite places to visit have been Egypt, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, and Tahiti. Next, I circled in red the places on my travel bucket-list: places I need to travel to in my lifetime–a few include Argentina, India, Maldives, and Zambia.
When I travel, I have two idiosyncrasies that I routinely do as my little travel traditions. First, I like to keep a handful of coins from each of the places I travel to. When I come back home, I keep them in a little jar and I love to be able to take them out from time to time to relive visiting the country (and trying to use the coins when paying for things–haha!).
And the second? Well I’m a fashion girl at heart so I love seeking out unique and special shoes to take home as souvenirs from my excursions. I picked up these YSL golden heels in Dubrovnik, Croatia and the handcrafted jeweled flats from a souk market in Dubai. They are both beautifully crafted shoes and its a special way for me to bridge travel and fashion together.
What are your favorite ways to remember your golden travel memories? Do you like to look through photographs and Instagrams, or look through a box of ticket stubs and maps? Do you think about the gorgeous sites you saw and hiked, or perhaps even a delicious meal shared with friends and family with a sweet ice cream bar for dessert? Mmmm!
