I recently went to Mexico for a quick vacation and wanted to share my effortless travel style with you as well as some of my tips to make traveling as painless as possible. I travel a lot and have garnered platinum status through my many trips–mainly traveling for different projects and trying to squeeze in vacations when possible–so I know my way around an airport or two.
keep it simple
My number one tip for travel style is to keep it simple. I purposely don’t wear any jewelry because you don’t want to be that person holding up the security line. I recommend signing up for TSA Precheck (or Global Entry if you travel internationally frequently–it makes customs a breeze!) to avoid taking your shoes off. My travel outfits are typically focused around basics so that I can be comfortable on the flight and able to run around the airport easily. These slip-on sneakers are my favorite casual shoes (so comfy!) and this quilted sweater is a recent purchase from the Old Navy sale section and I love how cozy it is! Definitely a major plus when going for effortless travel style.
don’t check your bags
Since I travel frequently, I stand by the rule of “don’t check your bags unless absolutely necessary”. I like the idea of keeping my belongings with me and not paying for baggage fees, plus it keeps your luggage looking clean and new. I’ve had poorly made bag wheels snap off from after being in the airlines’ custody–twice!–so I am now a devout carry-on girl. I opt for my SWISSGEAR Liteweight Carry-on Spinner because it’s super light and I love the spinner wheels for an easy push bag. Minimal effort required to push your bag through the terminal while ordering your Uber ride home! If black luggage isn’t your thing, this bag also comes in 5 other colors, including bright red! I love the look of a matching set of backpack and luggage–it makes you look pulled together, even if you’re barely awake from your red eye!
protect your tech gear
One of my saddest flights was when I carried my laptop in a stylish tote (not a tech protective bag) and watched another passenger ram my laptop with a wheel bag–thankfully my laptop wasn’t damaged but, I’m not taking any chances. Since then, I carry a protective bag to haul all of my stuff while keeping my laptop secure and protected. I’ve been using this SWISSGEAR Deluxe Laptop backpack because of the numerous pockets. I like having my laptop in it’s own laptop compartment for easy access from my other stuff. The main compartment is exceptionally roomy and typically holds my tech chargers, camera, makeup bag (trust me… its a big one!), cross-body purse, and a sweater or scarf for layering on a chilly flight. I officially switched from shoulder totes about two years ago when traveling or toting my laptop around–maybe it’s the San Francisco tech influence–but I think its much for comfortable, plus backpacks are definitely having a moment right now!

My dad always taught me never to check my bags. It’s so tough though, when none of your favorite products come in travel size 🙁 In any case, you look gorgeous!

I know, that’s the hard part. I typically fill up travel-friendly tubes with products that are in too-big containers.

Great tips, love your simple style. I’m a carry-on gal as well.
My go-to travel outfit is a maxi skirt. Because I can dress it up or down and it’s a lot easier in those tiny airplane bathrooms.
You can get Global Entry for free if you have certain credit cards. 🙂

Yes I think its a platinum Amex? I ended up paying for it and it’s the best money I’ve ever spent. My entire party at booking gets precheck and expedited customs entry. So nice to not wait in those massive lines!

I love how you matched everything it looks effortless stylish, and very comfy, the last things you need is to be uncomfortable in a long flight.

Thanks Anna-Maria! Comfy on a flight is key!

I love that outfit! When I travel I like to be comfortable but stylish. I travel a few times a year, so anything I can do to avoid any craziness, is a must for me.

Agree! My number one tip to everyone is don’t check your bag!

I agree with the “no checked bags” rule. I try my best to keep it all in one carry on. It just makes me rest easier knowing my things are with me.

I definitely go for pure comfort when I’m travelling, haha. I am taking a long haul 14 hour flight to New Zealand tomorrow, and you know I’ll be in leggings and a hoodie with my hair up in a bun… 😉 You look much more gorgeous! xo

This outfit looks like the perfect balance between style and comfort for traveling – which is the hardest balance to find when living out of a suitcase! I love that black hat especially, so cute!

Such a cute outfit! I always wear my hat on the plane too so that it doesn’t get squished. Plus, it makes you look so polished! Love it!
