This weekend was the first time in a long time that I didn’t have anything planned. Typically I pack my weekends full with catching up with friends, projects around the house, trips to wine country, and general errand running (the worst…but it’s got to get done!) so it felt strange going into the weekend with not much of an agenda. I decided to grab a friend and my pups and head into the backyard for some chilled out girls time. Check out my tips for a chill backyard hangout below!
HATS & SUNNIES
If I’m indulging in some sunshine time I’m most likely wearing a big oversized hat and sunnies (and SPF too!) to stay protected. I can easily get sunburnt on my forehead (trust me, I’ve learned from experience!) so have made sure to have proper protection with me. I got this hat from Target recently and love the flat brim look! You’ll be seeing it in many outfit posts I’m sure!
DRINKS & SNACKS
What’s a backyard hangout without snacks? My friend and I decided to indulge a bit since we had put in quite a workout earlier in the day so decided to enjoy some mint-infused water (gotta stay hydrated!), fresh fruit, and devilishly delicious Magnum Double Dip ice cream bars –also picked up at Target when I impulse purchased my hat haha! Typically I’m focused on clean eating as much as possible during the week but sometimes on the weekend–you just want to enjoy the chocolatey things in life, am I right?! This caramel-double-chocolately goodness are hands down my favorite ice cream bar and perfect for our hot summer day. Magnum is on sale at Target right now until 7/30 for 2 boxes for $7 so… might have stuffed my freezer full–oops!
READING MATERIAL
I’m really bad about taking the time to read all of the magazines and books that I order so I figured today was the day to do it. I’ve been stockpiling a few Sunset Magazines for quite some time in hopes of getting garden and backyard inspiration since I’m always looking for ideas of things to do. The most recent issue shares Josie Maran’s backyard and it is just gorgeous… it makes me want to order tons of gorgeous rugs and tapestries… it’s good inspiration for my summer backyard oasis project!
CHILL PLAYLIST
I went to Austin recently and stayed at the amazing Hotel Van Zandt where I was able to hear The Wild Now perform live. The girl / guy duo has a really cool laid back, calypso-indie-guitar sound (can you tell I’m not a music terminology expert?) and their album has quickly become my Summer ’16 soundtrack. My favorite song is Far Away–it’s on repeat, repeat, repeat!
PUPPIES
No backyard hangout is complete without your furry friends. Grab your favorite snuggle buddy (in my case Lola and Penny) and have a wonderful afternoon!

Your backyard is lovely. That big, long couch is amazing…..and it looks like your pups love it too! I love lounging around in our yard, with a drink in one hand and a good book in another – I can watch my kids run around.

I prefer weekends at home like this, it’s always so relaxing and it’s the best time to catch up on some reading! I think it’s great to prepare for it too, with some snacks and some music, you won’t need anything else!
This looks like the most epic backyard of all time. Basically our backyard is used for caging in our pups and housing various BBQ equipment!
