THE IMPORTANCE OF THE WEEKEND GETAWAY

TimberCove Resort

One of the best parts of summer is planning a trip–whether it’s a three week trip across multiple countries or just a weekend getaway–there is something to be said for the R&R that an escape can provide.  I love taking the planning out of the mix and deciding on a Thursday night that we are heading on a mini weekend getaway the next day–it’s so freeing to forget the planning (especially since we have a major trip we are planning coming up).  And best of all, we’re earning 3% cash back at US Supermarkets, and 2% cash back at Gas and Department Stores with my Amex Blue Cash Everyday Card. This means more money in the bank for the next trip!  Win win.

STAYING AT TIMBERCOVE

Living in the San Francisco Bay Area, there are so many places to escape to for the weekend and on of our favorite places to go to is Timber Cove Resort in Jenner, CA.  It’s about a 2.5-3 hour drive from San Francisco but we love coming up here for a night or weekend to take in all of the views and enjoy the property.  I first came here for my birthday weekend a couple years back and took a weekend trip earlier this year (we made a travel vlog of the trip here) and popped back over once again.

I highly recommend you book one of the suites for an incredible experience.  Jenner is a small Sonoma Coast town so when you’re at the resort, you’re at the resort.  It’s the destination.  And with the sunset and evening fog rolling in, sometimes the best thing to do is hole up in your room, turn on the fireplace, and watch the Pacific Ocean tide roll in.

TAKING IT SLOW

One of the reasons I opt for these mini getaways during the summer (any time of year actually) is because Ican get very caught up in “catching up” over the weekend and are workaholics.  Give me a weekend and I can fill it to the brim with emails I need to follow up on, projects to shoot, blog posts to write, trips to the grocery store, the basement that needs to be organized, laundry to fold–you get it.  Since I have the tendency to work instead of relax, taking these weekend getaway trips helps me relax and leave the to-do list for another day.  Don’t worry, it will still be there tomorrow!  Nothing like spotty cell service to help unwind too!

PUTTING IN QUALITY TIME

On the topic of me being a workaholic, we need to remember to slow down and savor the moments.  Staying at Timber Cove was exactly what I needed.  I made good use of the vintage record player in our suite and stocked up on some records from the lobby record library, opened a bottle of local Fort Ross wine to do a mini-wine tasting, and danced around the room listening to amazing music.  I cannot describe how amazing this feeling was to be transported away to a place where all worry about anything else disappeared and it was all about the feeling in the moment.  And I ended up ordering the same record player on Amazon the next day (with my Amex Blue Cash Everyday Card of course)!

TimberCove resortTimberCove Resort TimberCove ResortDISCOVER A NEW PATH

Taking a trip will always lead to adventure and even if you’ve traveled to your favorite weekend getaway spot before you’ll always find something new to discover.  This particular weekend I decided to drive into a local town to see what we could find and stumbled onto an art gallery featuring tons of Ansel Adams original photography prints and my mind was blown.  Ansel Adams has created some amazing images, especially of my local California, and its incredible to think that this was all done before digital cameras where you had one shot to adjust your camera settings and get the shot.  The woman who owned the shop is named Mary Alinder (with her husband) and was actually Ansel Adams’ assistant and she had amazing stories to tell about him and some of his most iconic works.  She even wrote his biography! Check out my vlog from my trip to hear her story.  Never would I have stumbled upon this without leading with a sense of adventure!

TimberCove Resort American Express  TimberCove Resort

Our weekend getaways have been unforgettable experiences in my life–I wouldn’t trade them for the world.  I’m glad I am able to fuel my memories and fun to take the road less traveled all while living this crazy journey called life together!  And I LOVE having my vintage record player at home–it brings me back to our amazing weekend at Timber Cove Resort.

In partnership with American Express, all thoughts are my own.

We’re headed on a cross-country road trip and these cozy, cabin photos have me inspired to pack and prepare. Also, I’ve been wanting a good record player and have had my eye on a Crosby. Do you find yourself using yours often?

I love doing road trips and do a lot of staycations for the weekends here and there. Or, in the middle of the week depending on who I am going with. I tend to go any time of the year.

✨ Harrison Finnley Michaels 12/8/2019 ✨ Three ✨ Harrison Finnley Michaels 12/8/2019 ✨
Three months with this little guy and our worlds are rocked. He’s gone from just opening his eyes to rolling over, pushing himself up, grabbing at toys (and my phone as I type this out). He loves to laugh and talk in his baby language all day long 🤣 and sleeps all through the night 🙌🏼 How did we get so blessed with him?! @kmichaels216
Wedding Bells 💍 We are finally diving into some Wedding Bells 💍
We are finally diving into some wedding planning after our engagement last year and not going to lie, it’s overwhelming! We are super laid back and are looking for something small to celebrate. For me, this day isn’t about a big, fancy dress, or hundreds of guests to entertain. It’s about spending time with Kevin and I together committing our lives to one another. I was recommended to check out @shutterfly’s The Wedding Shop and mocked up an invite in this beautiful botanical print perfectly personalized to us and our style. Love our custom candle (smells so good!) and champagne flutes too! Check out my stories for more behind the scenes of unpacking our wedding items and some close ups! #MyShutterfly (ad)
CATCHING UP, what do you have going on this week? CATCHING UP, what do you have going on this week?
• This morning I had an eye exam to check my contacts / glasses Rx. I shared new glasses on Stories but turns out the Rx was wrong in them. I’m TRYING to wear my glasses more around the house and splurged on a pair from @ysl hoping that would help me do it 🤣🤓
• I haven’t been a big concealer wearer but I’ve been testing out the @urbandecaycosmetics naked concealer and have been liking how light it feels on my skin (I’m wearing it here, dress is new from @urbanoutfitters!)
• A work-related project this week—I’m trying to get my inbox of 700 emails down to zero. My problem is that I’ll get an email with some great piece of info in it and think “oh this is great! I can’t work on this right now but I’ll save for when I can” and I mark it unread. Well over time that has added up to 700 😬 I’m thinking of tackling it by sorting through and noting down whatever idea it is in my notebook (paper planner for LIFE! 📒) to reference it and have them all in one place. Maybe this will work!
• I’m currently sitting here watching this little baby sleep and the whole “I want to eat this baby” thing is SO REAL. What is it about babies where it makes us say that?!? He loves his @bibs_usa and @mushie_co!
• I’m considering cutting 3-4 inches from my hair....but here’s the kicker...I have this weird urge to DO IT MYSELF. Maybe I don’t want to put it off until I can get an appointment but I just want to cut it now. Please you guys, talk me out of doing this with scissors in the bathroom 🤣✂️
• Kevin and I have been binge watching @abcscandal and it’s SO ADDICTING. If you haven’t watched it, join us on Netflix but don’t blame me when you’re 2 episodes past your bedtime 😜 we are currently on season 4 of 7!
• WHAT ARE YOU UP TO THIS WEEK???
NEW MOM FASHION AND BEAUTY HACKS: 💁🏼‍♀️
1️⃣ Style your hair once ride that beautiful hair through the week with minimal effort. I use the @t3micro curling wand on day 1 fresh hair to put a little curl in it. On days 2-4 I use dry shampoo—my favorite is @livingproofinc to soak up oil, and then on days 5+ when dry shampoo doesn’t cut it anymore I throw on a cute beanie
2️⃣ Still trying to “bounce back” (whatever that means...) after baby? Same mama, same. @spanx leather-look leggings suck it all in and help as a postpartum support during healing. Win win!
3️⃣ Duster coats are the ONLY thing I want to wear. Not only do they keep you cozy as we wait for spring, but having pockets is NECESSARY for me. Phone in one, pacifier in another, and whatever other random things I need to bring with me when my arms are full with a baby
4️⃣ Lots of undereye concealer for that 8 hours of sleep look. @tartecosmetics shape tape is a favorite but I’ve been testing out @urbandecaycosmetics stay naked concealer and really like it for more natural coverage
MAMAS, WEIGH IN: What are you mom fashion and beauty hacks?! #newmomhacks
Our morning walk ritual ☺️ It’s still been a Our morning walk ritual ☺️
It’s still been a bit chilly out in the mornings but that doesn’t stop us from bundling up (in matching hats no less!) and going for a walk around our neighborhood. Baby carrying is a wonderful thing once you get the hang of it! I love how it gives you a bit of a workout with the added weight of a baby (Harrison is 11lbs now!) and gives them a chance to look around with a different view than the stroller. I can’t wait until he’s big enough to be front facing and then he can really look out at the world. I’ve been using the @nuna_usa @potterybarnkids CUDL carrier (this fabric is the broken arrow caviar) and my favorite feature are the magnetic clips that automatically snap into place to hold baby snugly. #lovemypbk
